| What is Shenlong?
In Chinese Mythology, there are many folklores and fairy tales about dragons and warriors. The Shenlong is a dragon, in Chinese Mythology that controls the winds and the rain. The Shenlong appears in Traditional Chinese Mythology as well as Simplified Chinese Mythology. The pinyin or shenlong is a spiritual dragon with great powers. In the Chinese mythology dragons were always the controllers of the weather. A Chinese dragon or Lung in Chinese that not only appears in China but they also appear in other East Asian cultures. In the West they are called Oriental or Eastern dragons. The dragon is depicted as a snake like creature with many claws. They have been apart of Chinese folklore fro centuries. The ancient Chinese believed in the Shenlong and has long respected it. There are many different types of dragons in Chinese mythology that have the same traditional stories as the Shenlong. There are theTialong Dragon, this is the Celestial Dragon, the Dilong Dragon, the Underground Dragon, Panlong is the Coiling Dragon, this dragon controls the water and the Fucanglong Dragon, the Dragon of Hidden Treasure.
All dragons in the Chinese culture command a lot of respect . It is considered a very bad omen if someone disfigurers a dragon or uses it for a purpose other than a symbol of Chinese Culture. The spiritual Chinese would not be pleased to see such Dragons being used in advertising campaigns. In fact, there was a Nike campaign out recently with LeBron James slaying a dragon and then fighting a Kung Fu master and the master losing the fight, this to the Chinese was wrong on so many levels. They immediately pulled the ads in China. The Chinese take their traditions and their mythology very seriously. |
